John Deere 5300 MFWD tractor shifter linkage problems?
Couple of months ago when I put my tractor in park it would not engage and hold the tractor. Now the shifter just moves around everywhere and will go in any gear. Any ideas?

Answer:
There's a Cotter Pin right below the rubber boot on the Shift..The Cotter Pin Broke.(I call it a cotter pin, or compression pin)
There's a metal guard to remove, and four bolts on the base of the shifter...When you pull the shifter out , it has ball-joint with the cotter pin running through it...And if that pin is not broke, there's two more pins further back on the linkage...I've changed all of them at least 5 times.
Shine a light in the hole the shifter came out of , and you'll understand how it should go back in, it's simple.
I have two-wheel drive, but I doubt that part is any different..
