How do I fix a slow draining toilet?
Specifically, when I flush the water never fully evacuates from the bowl, it just spins around.
I know that the water in the bowl is getting changed out with each flush (not fully clogged) but as I said the bowl never empties which makes it very hard to flush anything that floats. If I pour dish soap and a lot of water into the toilet it will flush normally exactly once then return to its old pattern of just swirling the water without changing the level.
I've already tried plunging it but I don't think my plunger is very good (takes about 2-3 seconds for the rubber flap to "reset" and be ready to plunge again). What should be my next step? Should I buy a bunch of dish soap and just do that like 10 times in a row followed by some plunging? Do I need a toilet auger? Should I try to pick open the holes? (can't see if they're clogged)
Answer:
Get a bottle of Rid-X. It's a septic system treatment but it works on clogged pipes too. Dump some in and let it sit for a few hours, do it when you go to bed will probably be the best. If your toilet is still not working in the morning you probably need to snake your drain.
