Frequently Asked Questions...
John deere x585, buying, lets say "issue".?
Heyo! Me again! So heres the problem. I need to convince my parents (im 12 and 1/2) to buy me something. Same old, same old your thinking. Yeah, not nessaseraly. Its a $7,000 tractor. I am pretty much the lawn matince guy (by choice) and i currently have an 11 or 12 year old john deere lt133. I want the x585. I found one from turkey foot equpitment in PA, and they can ship, via freight. I fell in love with this tractor. Hydraluic operation, shaft driven, but im not going to get i to that stuff now. Any ways to convince? (ps, we are most likely going to win a lawsuit that will win at around $70,000-$250,000, if that helps.) thanks for support and your answer in advance. POINTS FOR BEST ANSWER!!!
Answer:
You might be fighting an uphill battle on this one. Several things just to consider: The x585 is not a current production model for John Deere. It was last produced in 2005, so this tractor will be at least 5 years old when you get it.The x series only goes to 500 now and offers no 4 wheel drive option. So the one that you are seeking may be a new unit that was left over or a reconditioned/used (most likely) unit that someone traded in. The x585 is intended for use on Large plots of land (3+ acres, if I recall correctly. A football field is roughly equal to one acre of lawn, so imagine 3 fields placed side by side to get an idea of how much grass this tractor is intended to cut at one time.) with relatively rugged terrain, (Hence the 4 wheel drive) So if you have less yard, this is too much tractor for your needs. All of the extras on this model are nice indeed, (Power/tilt steering, heavy duty hydrostatic transmission, shaft drive/ hydraulic pto, etc.) But when they break down, they can be extremely expensive to repair. And as "rare" models like this get older just finding the parts can be difficult. I have an x595SE that I use around my farm. It is a good tractor, but the repair costs ( broken front axle 2 years ago, hydraulic systems maintenance/repairs, scheduled upkeep, etc.) have at times been a real eye-opening experience. Plus the attachments( bucket loader, plows, dozer blade, etc.) can be very expensive too.
As for the lawsuit amount, the way things work in the court these days, it could be quite a while before the money shows up. The losing side in most cases can appeal the decision to a higher court and sometimes this process can take months or even years to resolve. And when finally it does, the amount of money you actually get is often a lot less than the awarded amount, due to things like federal, state, local taxes, court costs and lawyer(s) fees that your parents may have to pay.
Please understand that when I was your age, I too loved to dream about the high-end, fancy models of the John Deere tractors I saw when we went to the dealership with our father. But as I have aged I have come to know that my father's advice was best: "Get what you need to get the job done, and save the rest for something else." As I said, I own an x595SE. But I bought it because it was best suited for the workload I need it to perform. If you'll only need it to cut the grass and do basic lawn chores, get a smaller, newer model (maybe even "Brand-new"! They have warranties that cover things that may break down in the coming years that the x585 may no longer have).
In any case, I would like to commend you for your willingness to help your parents out with the lawn. Two BIG thumbs up!
